Accidents: Appeal to General Public

Road Accidents are taking a toll on precious lives of people. In most cases these accidents could be prevented. Overloading is one of the main causes of accidents, particularly on hilly roads. Rash driving, use of mobile phone while driving, drinking and driving, apparent bad condition of the passenger vehicles and worn-out tyres, are also some factors responsible for road accidents, besides the road engineering aspects.

Overloading of public transport is a serious violation of the Motor Vehicle Act, which can result in cancellation of the driving licence and vehicle permit.

Public transport is designed to carry a finite number of people, at a time and overloading not only affects the passengers, but also reduces the life of the vehicle.

An appeal is made to the public in general and passengers, in particular not to board a vehicle that is already full to capacity, but instead wait for the next bus or taxi. If you see any vehicle that is overloaded, we appeal to you, as a responsible citizen, to please report the matter. You may take a photograph of the vehicle, showing the overload, ensure that you capture the vehicle registration number plate. Dont forget to indicate the place and time.
