Thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of local Jaish-e-Mohammad militant at his native village in Warpora Sopore on Saturday night.
Reports reaching GNS said that around five thousand people assembled at the graveyard at Warpora and participated in the funeral prayers of the militant Tahir Ahmad War alias Tahir Molvi.
Tahir was later laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans, they said.
Soon after Tahir’s burial, some gunshots were reported at his graveyard. A police official said that that they are ascertaining the firing incident. However, sources said, that it is believed that militants offered a gun salute to the fallen associate.
Meanwhile, the body of the non-local militant was taken to Gantamullah, Sheeri Baramulla and was handed over to the local auqaf committee for last rites.
Around eight to ten people offered funeral prayers of the slain militant late this night, officials added.
The duo was killed in an encounter with a joint team of Army’s 22 RR, special operation group of police and CRPF at Mir Mohalla area of Warpora Sopore.
SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal told GNS that the bodies of both the militants were recovered from the encounter site today afternoon.
Meanwhile, officials said that two LeT militants Ali Bhai and Hubaib killed in Hajin, Bandipora encounter were also buried at Gantamullah, Sheeri late last night. (GNS)
