Azadi slogans on Friday reverberated in Mendhar here against the assault on Article-35 A, which grants special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
Reports reaching GNS said that around 11:00 am today, people, mostly youth and traders staged a peaceful protest against the attempts to scrap Article 35-A of the constitution.
Chanting pro-freedom slogans, the protesters took out a march from Dak bungalow Mendhar to the bus stand. The protesters dispersed near Hanuman Mandir when news about adjourned of petitions in the Supreme Court spread.
Later, life returned to normal as all the traders re-opened their shops while transport returned on the roads.
Meanwhile, SDM Mendhar Dr Tanveer Ahmad Khan told GNS that those responsible for raising slogans will be dealt with sternly.
“Two separate FIRs already stand registered against the people who had shouted anti-national slogans,” he said, adding “Those who shouted slogans today, will also be dealt with in accordance with the law,”
Khan said that he has directed SHO to identify the people who shouted anti-national slogans and ensure they were put behind the bars.
“Our intelligence agencies are keeping an eye on such people. Those responsible for instigating people will be punished,” he added. (GNS)
