Achabal shootout: Police statement

Police on Saturday morning issued a statement in which it said that militants in the midnight hours attacked a police picket at Achabal in District Anantnag. However the attack was successfully repulsed by the alert jawans on duty at the picket.

In the retaliatory action one militant was killed. The weapon of the militant was also recovered from the site of attack. The killed militant has been identified as Bilal Ahmad son of Abdul Ahad Bhat from Tantraypora Yaripora of District Kulgam. Bilal had joined the proscribed terror outfit LeT three months before. His involvement was also established in a weapon snatching case earlier. He was involved in carrying out terror attacks on the security forces and civilian atrocities in the area.

In this incident one Jawan also sustained injuries and has been evacuated to the nearby hospital for medical attention. He is stated to be stable now.

From the spot two cars have been also seized by Police, which were apparently used by the militants. Police has registered a case in this regard and investigation in the instant matter is in progress.
